About Us

When people come into one of our stores for the first time, they often ask how we got our name. It couldn’t be simpler. The store is named after my mother Louisa, and me – Muffet.

Twenty years ago, there were very few options for those who wanted really well made items for the kitchen. Most people depended on department stores, whose range was vast in quantity, but often extremely limited in quality. I decided that my little store would be exactly the opposite: I would carry a limited range of items, but each one would be of very high quality.

As a single mum, I had often experienced indifferent – and sometimes downright incompetent – service when I shopped for my home and family. I decided that things would be different in my store. I would be friendly and respectful to each customer. I would learn about all the products I sold so I could answer any question people might have. And I would bend over backwards to make sure every customer was a happy customer.

I’m proud to say that people responded positively to my approach, and Muffet & Louisa began to grow. I expanded my range of products and began to carry things for the dining room, bedroom and bath, always choosing high-quality, reliable items from reputable manufacturers.

Fifteen years after I first opened, the little store in Sidney, BC was absolutely bursting at the seams. I opened our second location in Victoria’s downtown Market Square in 2002, with lots more room for display and storage. And because of its location, it sees shoppers from across the continent and around the world.

When I began to think of expanding again, we immediately thought of the Internet. We have worked hard to create an online Muffet & Louisa that will live up to our ‘bricks and mortar’ stores. I hope you enjoy shopping here, and if you have any questions, please let me know.
